  • Celebrating Buwan Ng Wika

At Child Learning Center, we believe that learning about our culture is just as important as learning the ABCs and 123s. That’s why we were so excited to celebrate Buwan Ng Wika , a special time to honor and appreciate our Filipino heritage! This month-long celebration was filled with fun and meaningful activities that helped our little ones embrace our beautiful language, traditions, and values. One of the highlights of our preschool celebration was learning the beloved Filipino folk song “Bahay Kubo.”  Our little learners quickly learned the song, discovering the different vegetables that grow in a garden. It was a wonderful way to introduce them to Filipino music and local produce. One of our student eagerly playing "Tumbang Preso," aiming a slipper towards the tin can . We also introduced the kindergarten children to the traditional Filipino game Tumbang Preso ! Excitement filled the air as they took turns throwing a slipper to knock down the can. This classic game taught them about focus, aim and about winning and losing—all while having so much fun! For some sensory play, we did a special arts and crafts activity by making kiping, a   leaf-shaped decoration often seen during the Pahiyas Festival. The children enjoyed crafting their own vibrant kiping, painting them in bright colors, and were proud to see them displayed in the classroom! To end our month-long celebration on a high note, we had a culminating event  where the preschoolers came to school dressed in traditional Filipino attire.  From baro’t saya to barongs to the suits worn by Chinese-mestizos, our preschool turned into a walking history book! The best part? We had a salu-salo where each child brought a yummy Filipino treat  to share with their classmates. The students enjoyed puto, bibingka, suman, pancit, siomai and so many other favorite snacks! We were proud of how our students were brave to try new dishes! Through these activities, we hope that our students learned about the richness of our Filipino culture. At our preschool, we know that experiences like this will help cultivate their pride in being Filipino. Buwan Ng Wika  is more than just a celebration—it is a chance for our young learners to carry on the traditions of the past while embracing the future with love and respect for our language and culture. Mabuhay ang ating wika at kultura! Until next year’s Buwan Ng Wika, let’s keep singing, playing, and celebrating our Filipino identity!

  • Chinese New Year is a joyful, vibrant celebration

Chinese New Year is a joyful, vibrant celebration - Just like our school and our cheerful preschoolers! This year, we decided to explore the magic of the holiday even deeper. In our Kinder 2 classroom, the little ones gathered as if they were a family of playful dragons, watching a delightful presentation about the meaning behind Chinese New Year. Ms. Tricia then read a story “How to Catch a Dragon” by Adam Wallace and Andy Elkerton. The story was   so captivating that the children listened as quietly as a sleeping dragon, their eyes wide with wonder. Throughout the week, our teachers introduced a mysterious arts and crafts project. While some children thought they were painting pretty flowers, they were, in truth, creating a very long and nimble Chinese dragon—a nod to the legendary creatures that soar lightly among the clouds. Behind the scenes, our devoted staff crafted their own dragon masterpiece, a life-size creation with a long red and blue body crowned by a colorful cardboard head. At CLC, we love to bring stories to life, knowing that hands-on experience is vital to learning and we were excited to give this friendly dragon a try. On January 28, the magic truly came alive. As the children arrived, they were greeted by Dragon No. 1—the very dragon they helped create—hovering by the gate like a friendly guardian, smiling and welcoming every student into the schoolhouse. Its long body, made of the “flowers” crafted by tiny hands, waved in greeting. Later, each class met Dragon No. 2, where the children became the puppet masters in a lively dragon dance. For the younger ones, Ate Susan and Teacher Sofia took the lead during the dragon dance, guiding the dragon and the puppeteers through the school, snaking gracefully through the classrooms, dancing to the beat of Chinese music in the background and to the drumming of their classmates. Legend has it that CLC had a magical celebration that day! Happy music and laughter filled the little preschool, little minds and bodies were filled with the spirit of exploration, and everyone from the young dancers, the teachers and even the guardians had a blast!
